A320 Simulator Program – 1-Hour Session

1. Initial Briefing – 5 min

  • Quick explanation of the controls: sidestick, throttle, pedals.

  • Difference between manual, autopilot, and autothrust.

  • Session objective: one flight with the aircraft fully automated, one flight where you fly manually.

2. First Flight – Automatic (20 min)

  • Takeoff: student at the controls until rotation, then autopilot engaged.

  • Explanation: the pilot guides the aircraft verbally via FMS and ATC, not with hands.

  • ILS approach: fully automatic.

  • Automatic go-around: even the go-around can be handled in full automation.

  • Repositioning: with autopilot engaged, on downwind.

3. Second Flight – Manual (25 min)

  • Downwind: disengage autopilot, autothrust remains on.

  • Student flies the circuit and intercept manually.

  • Final approach: guided by PFD and external references, but flown entirely by hand.

  • Full manual landing.

4. Debrief – 5 min

  • Comparison between the two flights:

  • Comfort and precision of autopilot.
  • Effort and sensations of manual flying.
  • Time for questions.
